Matt Varkony is a 2nd year PhD student at RSMAS. His research interests include analyzing how coastal communities respond to catastrophic climate events. He investigates the mechanisms influencing decision making with respect to climate risk. His research aims to better understand the long term implications of experiencing catastrophic climate events. 

Matt is originally from Denver, CO but has lived in South Florida for the past 8 years. He majored in mathematics and economics at the University of Miami and went on to obtain his Masters in Professional Science studying Natural Hazards at the University of Miami.
